Casual Kilt Sizing Jitters

I've ordered my first made-to-measure kilt from USA Kilts, a casual kilt in Holyrood, and I am really excited.

When I first submitted my measurements I thought, "great!"

Then I remeasured a week later. I had dropped 3/4 of an inch in my waist!

I asked Rocky to adjust the size and he said that was do-able.

Today I remeasured and I'm back where I was before!

I sent my revised measurements off to Rocky and the gang and apologised profusely for bugging him again.

Since this is my first made-to-measure kilt so I'm pretty nervous because I can't exchange it if the measurements are wonky.

How much will 3/4 of an inch to 1 inch affect my kilt's hang? Will it look sloppy? I really want it to look good. I'm not expecting a tank but at least a decent fit.

Bren most kilts come with 3" worth of adjustment. An inch and a half either way of a fixed measurement. So I would worry not.

Whew! Thanks, mate! I think I'm beginning to get the hang of the lingo and the general styles surrounding kilts and Highland dress but this is my first made-to-measure kilt. Naturally I am a bit jittery. Of course I'm still an über newb...I readily admit that.

No worries, just had a thought ask Rocky how many holes the straps have, as far as I am aware most makers will take the customers given waist measurement as being the centre hole on the kilt straps. Thus allowing for a small adjustment either way.

It uses velcro instead of straps. I'm getting the Casual to replace an acryllic kilt to tdfe me over until I can jump into wool.

Bren... as stated in my PM and email:

The IS some natural "expansion" that humans go through on a daily basis. Keep in mind, you got the Casual kilt, and the velcro is very forgiving (vs. our Semi Trad which has straps and buckles). Put your mind at ease about the measurements being too big or too small. If they are, you just match the velcro up at the 'right' spot and put a belt on and away you go. It's not nearly as "exacting" as you're worried about on the Casual. That's WHY we use velcro... there's a bit of a 'fudge factor'. It'll fit fine, I promise.

I have several USAK casuals. A couple I bought when I was significantly heavier. One I bought "off the rack" and is the size I hope to be very soon - somewhat smaller. I can wear all of them with no real issue.
