Hope for the Future of Kilting
Sometimes its the little things that provide hope. Last night kilted up for our little town's production of the Nutcracker. Full hand sewn tank in Scott red tartan. At intermission a young man of high school age came up to me, gave me the thumbs up, smiled, and said with all sincerity, "Nice kilt."
Hope its not too many years before he's kilted himself.

Hope indeed, I find young people very appreciative of the kilt. I am kilted anytime I'm not working. I always wear a kilt to church when I'm home, last week two young ladies came up and said "we appreciate your kilt". A number of young men have also expressed appreciation and inquired about purchasing kilts. My second son has taken to wearing a kilt part time. He wears it to classes at the University and has told me there are about 10 more fellows wearing kilts to classes now. Yes there is hope.

That is definitely true, River. There are a pair of us who are regularly kilted at GRU. And, there are a few guys who have talked to me about getting their own. The couple who I've thought are more serious I've recommended Rocky's and Steve's sites (Rocky for the one who's looking for something less expensive, and Steve for a Marine who wants Steve's USMC Dress Blue for formal events).

Aye feels great. Sadly, the ballet company had very very strict rules about no photos or videos so didn't bring a camera. Turn out was close to this with an A2 leather jacket.

Hey there cousin Ron! I'm still teaching high school and kilt up at least once a week, sometimes more. Get lots of positive comments, but lately getting fewer...they no longer see it as anything worth commenting on. Several have told me they are planning on getting their own asap. Keeping the faith in Room 100!

Great pic. Wonderful that a teacher can role model common sense and cultural awareness.
And another X Marks tartan pic for my collection.

Kilts are comfortable, no doubt about that. However, having taught for some 26 years now, and having taught in classrooms where the students are on layered tiers, kilts might not be the best attire for the day. This is especially true of young men who are too busy being comfortable that they do not think about the view from teacher's place. If everyone is on the same level, no problem.
Wish I had had my kilt some 33 years earlier. Would have made college so much more comfortable.
Have a great holiday, everyone.
