Prince Charles in uniform of the Toronto Scottish

Impressive portrait. I didn't realize that any Canadian Regiments wore Hodden Grey kilts.

I found this on the link below...

And very smart he looks too. I am surprised they have not highlighted his pilots wings on his left breast. I note with pleasure in the bottom picture of the piece that he now holds the rank of Field Marshal, good for him.

The Rank of Field Marshal is only Awarded in War time .
1)General is the highest Rank he could acheive
2)Prince Charles will never ever reach the Rank of Field Marshal.
3)as Colonel in Chief of various Regiments he is only a figure head.

That is not at all correct. There are currently about nine living British field marshalls, seven of whom were promoted since 1990, including the Prince of Wales who was promoted in 2012.

"After the Second World War, it became standard practice to appoint the Chief of the Imperial General Staff (later renamed Chief of the General Staff) to the rank on his last day in the post. Army officers occupying the post of Chief of the Defence Staff, the professional head of all British armed forces, were usually promoted to the rank upon their appointment.[3]"

"A report commissioned by the Ministry of Defence in 1995 made a number of recommendations for financial savings in the armed forces' budget, one of which was the abolition of the five-star ranks. Part of the rationale behind the recommendation was that the ranks of field marshal, admiral of the fleet and marshal of the Royal Air Force were disproportionate to the size of the forces commanded by these officers and that none of the United Kingdom's close allies, such as the United States (which reserves the rank of general of the army for officers who have commanded large armies in major wars), used such ranks. The recommendation was not taken up in full, but the convention of promoting service chiefs to five-star ranks was stopped and the ranks are now reserved for special circumstances. Sir Peter Inge was, in 1994, the last active officer to be promoted to the rank. Inge relinquished the post of Chief of the Defence Staff (CDS) in 1997 and his successor, Sir Charles Guthrie, was the first officer not to be promoted upon appointment as CDS.[3]

The most recent promotions to field marshal came in 2012, eighteen years after the moratorium on routine promotions to the rank, when Queen Elizabeth II promoted Prince Charles, her son and heir to the throne, to the five-star ranks in all three services, in recognition of support provided for her in her capacity as Commander-in-Chief of the British Armed Forces.[4] At the same time, Guthrie, who relinquished the post of CDS and retired from active service in 2001, was promoted to honorary field marshal.[5] In June 2014 former Chief of the Defence Staff Lord Walker of Aldringham was also promoted to honorary field marshal.[6]"

    News Article:
"The Prince of Wales has been awarded the highest rank in all three military services by the Queen.
Prince Charles becomes a Field Marshal, Admiral of the Fleet and Marshal of the Royal Air Force."

Can I suggest a quick google on the subject that you might find informative.

About the labels on the photo, I have quibbles with a couple.

The crimson sash has been worn by officers in the British army for centuries, regardless of whether the regiment is English or Scottish or whatever.

The thing about sporrans only being worn by officers is obviously absurd, though true that that specific pattern is worn only by officers.

I'm pretty sure that the belt that supports the sword is called, oddly enough, a sword-belt. A baldric is something quite different.

Strange that he's wearing an inexpensive mass-produced dirk with cast plastic handle etc. Those were made by one of the Scottish jewellery firms like Carrick or Art Pewter Silver, I can't recall which just now, but the Highland Outfitter I worked for in the 1980s carried those in stock.
