In Defense of FedEx.....sort of
Our regular FedEx driver came in to the plant today with a delivery and noticed the kilt and said"Hey! You're wearing a kilt are you going to play bagpipes?" I said that I might when I get home but I don't have them with me. He asked "What's use of wearing a kilt if you're going to play pipes?" I told him I was just warming up to it. After some more good natured jibes he laughed, shook his head and said, "You guys are crazy, I love coming here!" Good vibes all around.

I don't know that anybody has anything against FedEx really...except that they stringently enforce duties and tariffs and charge what sounds like a rather high fee for their services doing so. Thus, i guess that most folks fell like they are not only having it stuck to them by the Fed but that FedEx is adding insult to injury by hitting them up for even more $ for the privilege of having it stuck to them.
Any discussion of customs charges can't help but be somewhat political. I would, however, suggest that the dollar (both US and Canadian...and GBP's, too) amounts should probably be adjusted upward in light of economic trends over the past few years. I would also suggest that it should be adjusted upward for transactions that are private sales and not commercial transactions (meaning things being brought in for resale).
Please remember that Adam Smith, the guy who wrote the book, was a Scot!

Well being the good UPS employee I am, I would have to disagree with that statement.

Fed ex as a whole has always been good to me. I've just had one idiot delivery guy who left two packages in very bad places, but other than him, no complaints.

I have never had any problems with the service from Fedex. Their delivery system works fine, as far as I'm concerned.
I think the only problem most people have, myself included, is the large fees they charge as a customs agent.

No matter what you may think of the organisation it's nice to know that their delivery guys can still have a human face!

I have to say that all the delivery personnel for Fed-Ex, UPS, and USPS that I deal with are fine folks. The DHL driver is afraid of the neighbors dog, but then so is almost everyone else that delvers anything there. (except the UPS driver, my friend Steve, who has a bag of doggie treats and knows how to ingratiate himself to ANY dog).
When it comes to issues of billing, customs, brokerage, and paper work in general, I am a USPS booster. We get a lot of bang for our buck.
Treat all the delivery people like humans, and you may discover that they ARE.
