I hate that attitude. And so many kilt wearers have it, too. It's like "OK, I'll wear it to the wedding, and then run home and immediately shove it back into the closet. That way, no one sees me in it." As if it's a thing to do only when you have no other choice, and then hide shamefacedly as soon as humanly possible. I guess I don't understand why people are so ashamed of it.

Have you tried the "I respect you enough not to tell you how to dress. Please afford me the same courtesy" argument? That worked for a friend of mine.
