Or if I'm in a slightly less silly mood, and the conversation goes beyond one question, I will explain that you don't have be Scottish, and point out that my great grandfather wore a kilt,and he was a black guy from Chicago.
That's great! When I get asked if I'm Scottish, I say "I'm made in America with Scottish parts."
