Re: Thoughts on hose color etc.

I guess I just dont get it. lol. Since I will never have to deal with this issue (unless there is the same stigma against white tights under a tartan skirt please tell me if there is) then I will simply brush it off as "a guy thing"....and will remember not to dress my guy in white hose.

Remember, Alan.... getting pissed off at stuff on the internet is kind of like yelling at the TV when you have the remote control in your hand.

    ---

Regarding white hose. It's my opinion, articulated about 100 times on this board, that if you happen to like white hose, then go right ahead and wear white hose. If you don't like white hose, then don't wear it.

I deleted the rest of what I wrote, as I re-referred myself to the first line of this post.

Wise words Alan. I applaud you.

I think 1 thing that some forget is that its just clothing. There are very few fashion laws. Some of what you read here is personal opinion only.

Now, now....you'll be about ruining my reputation as a tasteless, boorish, rabble-rousing kilted Lebowski, if you keep this up.

Meghan, if your guy wants to wear white hose, then get him a pair of white hose. Some people will think it tasteless. Most people won't care. If he doesn't like white hose, then buy something else. If you look through pictures of Scottish formal occasions on this board you will see lads in colored hose and white hose, so the logic of "Scots don't wear them" is just plain false.

However, some older gentlemen and some of our more traditional lads really don't like them. Some or those fellows are quite blunt and vociferous in expressing their dislike...which is fine. Some fellows find them boring or glaring. Others, like myself, do not. I have one absolutely gorgeous pair of hand-knit off-white hose when I reserve for bigtime dress-up. I also have two pairs of plain old white wool-blend hose which I wear whenever I happen to feel like it. Nobody has fainted at the sight of me, yet....

...though of course, gorgeous lasses do occasionally throw themselves at my feet. Right? right.....

You can't please everyone, so your man might as well please himself and you. Anyone who deigns not to speak to you because your fellow is wearing socks that they don't like isn't worth speaking to anyway...and that goes for ANY age and ANY color of socks, hat, belt, walking stick or dentures.

sounds great, Alan Thanks for that

I just never had any idea that white hose were so controversial. I still dont really understand the reasoning behind it, but I value the lessons and input I will let him decide in the end it's his legs! (and he looks so damn cute in a kilt, I think he could pull off hot pink polka dot hose and I wouldnt care)

*Splitting hairs... opening the can, get the worms ready*
BUT there is a WORLD of difference between white and off white/ candle light white/ champagne/ oatmeal/ ecru. Put a white veil on a bride in an off white dress and watch the tulle fly in a bridezilla rage.

**no point whatsoever to my comment**

But fun to read, nevertheless. Any excuse to use the word "tulle".

    As in..

A tulle and his money are soon ..... no?
