I would echo the idea of trying other shirts and ties along the way, just to add some spice and a dash of, je ne aise quoi, panache!

And . . . this is a personal thing, pull the bonnet to the right.

Alright, Cowher, between this post and your post in the "new traditionalists" thread, I'm starting to realize that you have pretty durn good taste!

I love the jacket and waistcoat. They look great on you. But yeah, your shoes need some lovin'. And I have to agree with Jeff on the orientation of your bonnet. That jumped out at me too. Maybe it also needs a good "jocking" and the addition of a badge?

Oh, and now you need a good pocket watch with a stylish chain.

edit: may I also add one more suggestion? Your photos just barely get the point across, due to the low lighting. Try taking your pictures outdoors in the natural light. You'll be amazed at how much better they look and how much clearer and sharper everything is.

Cowher, don't let the smile police bother you! I'm firmly of the opinion that fake-smiling for photos is ridiculous and overrated. Not only can it make otherwise normal people look like deranged lunatics*, but it's a new tradition (only a couple of decades old) that needn't be followed. Go with the 19th-century and early 20th-century style. Either a neutral facial expression or a look of determination will serve you much better than a cheese-eating grin.

*disclaimer: a natural "in the moment" smile can be a good thing, but far too often people develop a contrived "photo smile" that looks nothing like them, and is never seen in normal life, making their photos look odd and grotesque. Let us rebel against this unnatural trend!

AGREED. Photo face gets old. On the other hand how could you not smile with a jacket and waistcoat like that??

The grim faces in older photographs are likely linked to the longer exposure times required. Much easier to capture a natural, "in the moment" smile these days.

I think if you don't have a pair of black and a pair of brown shoes it's better to go with the black shoes and brown sporran, stap, etc than the other way around.
Just curious...which picture more closely shows the actuall color of the jacket?

Just a quick question -- is the image reversed due to a mirror? Traditionally, bonnets are pulled over the right ear, with the badge going on the left eye/side.

Otherwise than that, I think you look a very pukka sahib to be sure.
