All right, I've thought about it for a while.

A black velvet knife pleat kilt with slightly contrasting,silk edge stitching. The velvet could be a velvet-like material if real velvet isn't physically possible for a kilt.

Dark green hose, along with a simple, short tuxedo-like jacket, etc. I might try to work in a bolo tie.

* Velvet kilt might be better in dark blue with dark goldish-green edge stitching the more I think about it, and fewer wider pleats like some of the five yard kilts. The sporran would be a plain, black, smooth leather (not really shiny) with no ornamentation or cantle. Shoes: regular pattent leather pumps or Oxfords.
Can't make up my mind on the color of the edge stitching.

That sounds good for a modern outfit and the overall simplicity would mirror Saxon formal wear nicely. With the sporran, perhaps the plain black leather could be polished as one would polish their shoes? It would help to keep the level of dress high...
