This is why you see the low yardage kilts and why the kilts from Pakistan, with their lower labor rate, are most of what you see in your price range.

At Freedom Kilts we have tried our best to keep the cost within range without sacrificing quality. We do kilts with the waist heights our customers want but they are real kilts with swish in the pleats. Our Off-the-rack kilts can be worn for mucking about in the morning and dressed up for the evening.
But I'm sorry, I'm not WalMart.
You aren't a mass producer like UK Expo. The HoS PV kilts are good quality kilts for the price tag and the purpose of everyday wear and tear. Don't confuse good quality with high price. Kilt makers and kilt companies in Pakistan get discounts an average consumer could dream off. If you mean best quality P/V, something that lasts forever, $60+ might be plausible.

HoS kilts on the other hand, I could care less what happens to them while in them. They're not made with care and I dont feel bad treating them carelessly.
They haven't touched the magic hands of a scottish kilt maker and therefore are not worthy to called decently made - made with care. You don't have to care too much for them, because a replacement wouldn't ruin you, yeah that's a bit different than implying something is made so flawed you wouldn't even want to be seen dead in.
