Although the price will be less tha VAT, you'll make up for it in duties owed. I plan to stick with kiltmakers on this side of the pond. Plans do change, though, depending on the exchange rate....

...and the Turp-meister anticipated my next question: anybody have experience with this company and can let us know what kind of oppresive duties, tariffs or customs fees we can expect on the purchase of one of these tempting morsels?
I must admit that I am trying to forbear here and not raid the slowly growing kilt fund which already does have a specific objective in mind. I also have to think that I'd have to go with the domestic kiltmakers just to thwart the customs man...with respect to those overseas, plenty of talent here in N. America...

At $50 I'd be a fool NOT to order one...

When I brought up the page it was 50 pounds, not dollars. Including VAT, which gets subtracted when you enter a US shipping address. Plus shipping, of course.
Duties are independent of who you buy from. Some people manage to avoid them, and usually if the items are for personal use and under $200 you won't get charged. Just don't have it shipped Fedex!! I have a lawyer looking into why I have to pay duties a second time for a replacement kilt for the one I sent back to have pleated as ordered. I have one kilt and two sets of duty invoices.
At about $1.90/GBP, it's almost a wash to buy it overseas, versus sending the business stateside to a kiltmaker well-known on these forums (forae?) for his attention to detail even on the lower end of his line.
Does anyone know if PV is taxed by Customs on entry at the same rate as wool? Rocky?

Welcome to the wonderful world of Viking Technology Web sites.
Good luck. You're going to need it.

Right you are Scott - and its a shame... Tartanweb used to be a smaller mom & pop internet operation that offered quality products and truly great service.

You are doing well over there if you get a $200 value allowance for personal use before any duty.
Here it is only something like £18 and much depends on the value declared by the sender as to whether they open it or not and charge not only duty but a handling fee. I bought The Winds of War dvd set through Amazon from a US supplier as it was not available over here and ended up having to pay over £10 duty and handling fees for it.

I ordered about $1000 worth of merchandise from scottishkilts.net, one of the much maligned Viking Technology sites, about a year ago.
1.) All my items came in the time frame quoted
2.) There was no duty paid at all.
Earlier this year, I ordered about $150 worth of stuff from them.
1.) My items arrived in about 20 days
2.) No duty again.
Maybe I'm lucky, but my dealings with them have been quite good so far. The only disappointment I've had is their apparent inability to answer emails quickly (less than 48 hours), but each one of my emails has been answered.
