Ah hah! I thought this was one of those. I knew that knot in stomach wasn't coincidental! I hope everyone's orders go through without hitch. That's a screaming deal on the Irish American kilts.

You are doing well over there if you get a $200 value allowance for personal use before any duty.

Here it is only something like £18 and much depends on the value declared by the sender as to whether they open it or not and charge not only duty but a handling fee. I bought The Winds of War dvd set through Amazon from a US supplier as it was not available over here and ended up having to pay over £10 duty and handling fees for it.

I ordered about $1000 worth of merchandise from scottishkilts.net, one of the much maligned Viking Technology sites, about a year ago.

1.) All my items came in the time frame quoted
2.) There was no duty paid at all.

Earlier this year, I ordered about $150 worth of stuff from them.

1.) My items arrived in about 20 days
    2.) No duty again.

Maybe I'm lucky, but my dealings with them have been quite good so far. The only disappointment I've had is their apparent inability to answer emails quickly (less than 48 hours), but each one of my emails has been answered.

Clearly your order was not send via Fedex. This just illustrates how inconsistently the customs regulations area applied here.

You're right, I don't believe they were. I can't remember what carrier was used in either case, but FedEx was definitely not it.
