SF Bay Area springtime sew-it-yourself Saturday
So way2fractious and I were yakking last night at beer and kilts night and I tossed out an idea to him. Here's what it sounds like.
We rent a hall (probably the hall we used for Burns Night) for one Saturday in late Spring.
We bring in doughnuts and coffee for breakfast, everybody chips in for a pot-luck lunch, and we all go out to dinner that evening. Cost is like $6-8 bucks to pay the Legion for the Hall.
We gather in the early morning. Participants bring fabric, printed-out X-Kilt instructions, thread and sewing machines (if you have one). I'll show up with velcro and D-rings. We start bright and early and sew all day. When you're done, by about 7:00 at night before dinner.....you've got a new X-kilt. Not only that, but you have the satisfaction of making your very own, AND you will know exactly why a new kilt from a professional kiltmaker costs what it does.
Ladies that want to bang out an X-Skirt are more than welcome to attend. Absolutely.
Now we *might* not completely finish in 10-11 hours. Maybe. But then again, I bet most of us would if we had enough sewing machines. way2fractious, who's made a number of casual kilts as well as a bunch of traditionals, and Yours Truly will be your coaches.
I want to do this at least 4 weeks before 2007 Kilt Kamp so that folks can do both if they want to.
OK, who's interested? If we have at least 5 interested parties, I'll start asking more questions.
