Australian Pipe Bands wear slouch hats quite frequently; I have seen several pictures of the Perh (W.A.) Pipe Band wearing a straw hat with the band emblem on the pugarree (pugari). And, many Scots in the Boer War picked up the habit of wearing Australian-style slouches on the South African veldt.
Bowlers, however, are best left to double-breasted pinstripe suits with regimental ties, one of my favourite outfits to wear to church and other occasions -- must dig out my bowler after work -- and be sure to include a brally with that!
