			Out in Public

Well, I have had my kilt for nearly two weeks. Once I am home from work I wear it quite a bit. I have worn it to a few small restaurants and to a local KMart that does not have much business. Yesterday, was the first time that I wore it to a 'large public' place.....I went the local Super Wal Mart. While walking in a car load of teenage boys went by. One of them whistled at me. I got a lot of strange looks while in the store. Some times I could hardly keep from laughing at seeing people walk by me. I got a ready strange look from one boy in the store. I wish that we would have said something because his hair cut was far more 'unconventional' than my kilt. The biggest risk was the wind in the parking lot. I am certain that I am the only kilted man that has ever been in the Bryan, Ohio Wal Mart.
I ordered another Stillwater Economy kilt in a Mackenzie tartan. I hope that it arrives today. I am really getting hooked on wearing a kilt.

Great news, it does get easier to deal with all the different reactions, it is also easy to get hooked on wearing a kilt. Congratulations on the new kilt I'm sure it will show up soon.

From my experience (all of 7 months since I first wore a kilt) it does indeed seem to be an addiction. From one kilt I now have six in my closet and looking to get a seventh. And there are more I'm lusting after. Surprisingly enough I haven't had any negative reactions that I'm aware of (or can remember) here in the Rochester NY area. The worst that has happened was when a little boy saw me walking into CVS and he said to his mother "That man's wearing a skirt!". I laughed and heard her correct him in telling him that it was a kilt (smart lady!). I figure it's a lot better than the kids wearing their shorts around their knees. At least I can run if I have to! The most common question I get is: "Do you play the pipes?" I'm workin' on it... Bruce K.

I have never been a 'clothes horse', however, ever since I wore my first kilt that has all been in the process of changing. In the past I hardly ever spent money on clothes as most of my clothes have been given to me as birthday and holiday gifts. Then I would complain to my wife about her purchasing clothes. Oh, no!! I think the tables may start to be turned.

Goth kids for whatever reason tend to admire kilt wearers. So you'll get someone quite gothed out admiring your dress. It can be very odd.

mbhandy, Kid Cossack, Mr. MacDougall,I apologized for my lack of communication savvy on the internet.

Goth in this area (which is very conservative) is very rare to the point that I would not be surprised if any local Goth thought that wearing a kilt was 'not right'.

A very good friend of my and his wife usually have a couple of dinner parties during the year. I look forward to being kilted at the next party. In fact my friend might be disappointed if I arrived wearing slacks.
