Would it be proper to wear a swordsman jacket (vest), or as sometimes referred to as a peitean, to church or some other non-games-like function? These would be much cooler than an argyle jacket.
Cooler, but not as formal. If everyone else is wearing coats & ties and you're in a Jacobite shirt and Brigadoon vest you'd be seriously underdressed.

I tend to agree. It would be cooler but I think you would be viewed as underdressed, especially if the majority of men are in jackets and ties. The look is fine for the games but not church, unless you tend to have a rather casual congregation.

I also agree. In my more twisted moments I have fantasies of Prince Charlie and Argyl jackets in seersucker. It could happen.

I think that is a good idea. While wearing the kilt will almost always make you stand out, IMHO it is OK to stand out for dressing differently but not to stand out for dressing inappropriately. I wouldn't go to church without a jacket and tie if I was wearing trousers so I wouldn't do it wearing a kilt either.

    Somehow that's just wrong
