Swordsman jacket
Would it be proper to wear a swordsman jacket (vest), or as sometimes referred to as a peitean, to church or some other non-games-like function? These would be much cooler than an argyle jacket.

I'd say go for it but leave the sword at the door. If Pour1Malt can wear one at his wedding...

Don't forget that the Argyll jacket was "invented" by the Scots for the cold damp Scottish weather and with the type of cloth that was readily available to them, tweed.Heat was,is, rarely a consideration.
You chaps in the heat and humidity of "warmer climes" are very sensibly adapting your dress accordingly, to be more comfortable, whilst trying to stick to a theme.Any Scot from the past would have tried(not the same as succeeded!)to do the same in the circumstances.Go for it.

Now - everyone knows that you only wear the hawaiian prints with a solid color kilt! (which I don't have yet, so, it's been a long time!)
