Funny, I have a replica WWI jacket that I wore with a WWI service ribbon in honor of my great uncle Charles Lewis Scott who service in France - and came home safe.
Was at our local high school and the student manning the desk when I signed in said, "Thank you for your service." Explained politely that it was from War I and I wasn't quite that olde yet, and why I wore it this week before 11/11/11.
But still touching that she wanted to say thanks.
After much debate the local vets decided to move our parade from the real 11/11 to the govt holiday so we don't interfere with churchgoing. Was an interesting exchange of ideas.
Two years ago wore my RAF tartan kilt in the parade to honor my father's service. Last year wore my Macdonald tartan with a WPG replica jacket to honor my uncle Donald Stuart Macdonald's service in War II; he marched across France and Germany and was with the first company into Dachau.
This year, think it'll be my Leatherneck tartan and the USMC jacket I had made up to honor my late little brother. He was a cold warrior, but also a D.I. at San Diego.
Before kilts I marched in replica Civil War Union garb to honor my great great grandfathers who fought in Tennessee and defending Washington D.C. against Early. Did a lot of praying that the uniform wouldn't be mistaken for western cavalry by militant Navajos...kilts are safer.

"I'll have a kilt please, a nice hand sewn tartan, 16 ounce Strome. Oh, and a sporran on the side, with a strap please."
