Well, yea - but, and I know some won't believe this, but my hair started receding well before I could shave, when I was eleven years old. By the time I was 16, I was (hair wise) as you see me now. Never had a problem buying beer.. In fact I have never been asked for an ID card to prove age.

My Dad, both Grandfathers, uncles, cousins etc etc, all have or had full heads of hair. -I do have one of the fullest beards though.

I know... That first shave after going for a while can be brutal. I've just been shaving with the beard trimmers. I'm just trying to make sure nobody thinks I'm (higher class than I am, LOL!

It seems to me that some sort of facial hair is a natural accessory to kitedness.
I have had a waxed ["English style"] moustache for 30 years, had a full beard [trimmed] for awhile, which eventually became a "Franz Josef" which seems to suit me better than anything else.
When kilted, people just assume it to be a Scottish affectation, but in reality it was a combination of practicality [I hate shaving] and what style suited the various historical contexts I seem to find myself in {English Country Dance; Motorman/Conductor on a historical train}.
Of course, none of this was consciously planned on my part. Although it was obvious to some of my relatives that someday I would have facial hair AND wear a kilt, it didn't seem so to me. Maybe there's something to be said for Jungian theory here!

There you go,Gryphon noir, all of this is C. G. Jung stuff from deep in our collective monkey/lizzard brain... Reach deep into your savage monkey soul and grow an orangatan beard... and wear a kilt.
I'm really starting to like the hawaiian shirt/solid color kilt idea though. I could start growing pineapples in the back yard again... Roast a pig now and then. Oh, and have that scuzzy un-shaven look going on. Anybody got a volcano?

Interestingly enough I just found this thread, and I started re-growing my beard back around New Years. I had a goatee and 'stash from about 1996 till 2003 when I shaved it off looking for a change. I got carded more then than I did when I was in my twenties!

Well...that appears to be one advantage!

My father's family, most of the men lost their hair by 16...my mother's family, the men and women have thin hair. I take after my mothers side...so, I don't have the thickest hair, but it's decent...in fact, it's the same hairline I had when I was a baby! Really! Only thing different, I was ash blonde then...

That is the exact first thing my mom said the first time she saw my dad beardless. Which didn't happen till they had been married several years. My dad has a pretty full beard although he trims it more than he used to, I am just hoping that he grows his ponytail back out when he retires in July.

I used to wear a goatee, but the only time I looked good with such was when I was wearing my kilt. Since I don't get to wear the kilt as often as I like, off came the goatee. (Ah luikit as ra de'il, Ah deed.)
