    My first but not last

This was the first Burn's supper I had ever been to and I had a marvelous time. Dinner was excellent and the entertainment was as well. Champ's "Ode to Cornbread" was very funny, and I wish I had had my camera to snap a picture of Todd and company chasing "Tam" while moaning like ghosts during the reading of "Tam O'Shanter." Cant wait for the next time!

Looks as if you guys had a great evening.

I have never heard of it so, before I forget, I must Google 'Cornbread'!

    Take care,
    Ham.

    Ham,

This article will help explain about Ozarks cooking:

    http://thelibrary.org/lochist/period...tch/ow303c.htm

Champ wrote the "Address to a Cornbread" as a Ozarks take on the Address to a Haggis. He was inspired by another parody, "Address to a Sausage", which a friend of mine in Queensland, Australia sent me. The Aussie Scots recite it at their Burns Supper.

    Cheers,

    Todd

That's a great article, Todd. I suppose, based on that article, that my culinary upbringing in Illinois was a bit more Yankee than the Ozarks. For instance, I never had cornbread in a skillet until later in life. But then, my Mom's side of the family is over half German.

The article didn't, however, go into the disagreements (feuds) about cornbread: white vs. yellow cornmeal, sweet vs. not sweet, etc.
