More reasons to love kilts
As if I didn't already love kilts, I now have more reasons to love kilts.
Last night, I was touching up Christo13's kilt. He was working on his laptop, sitting on the couch while I sat on the floor and fixed a pleat that was starting to come unstitched at the hip (I have no idea how it happened, and hope that doesn't happen too much -- eek!). I also basted the pleats for the first time and pressed them to freshen it up for him. I've pressed his kilt twice (the first time I skipped basting the pleats), but this was the first time he's seen me doing anything with the kilt.
When I was finished, I held it up for him to see how it looked and have him help me put the hangers back on it. He then asked me if I could show him next time how to baste the pleats himself and press it. He would love to learn how to do it himself.
I don't mind doing any of this for him, but I love that he wants to learn things like that. When the kilt came in, I showed him how to remove the basting stitches and then he did the rest. He has recently taken to reading style blogs for men and loves to think more about clothing and things like that. When he saw the dressy and formal threads here and all the jackets and accessories he went nuts. He has even mentioned wanting to try his hand at making a few things at some point when we have the chance (like a sporran). I've mentioned to him that I would love to try my hand at making some kilts and he also expressed interest in learning with me to see if it might be something he could get into as well.
I'm so glad that he views kilts as not only something great to wear, but something to be involved in. And I enjoy being involved in them with him

Awww, and see.... I would love to see more gents wearing kilts! ;)
He's doing me a favor by being into this as well (for more reasons than just looking nice in a kilt, I mean heheh). Plus, I'm learning from it as well. I have sewn some pretty big projects, but I have had to learn on my own and sometimes fumbling through until I get better.
I've picked up a lot of great tips from this board. Since he doesn't have the time to read up on things like I do, I try to find what he'd need or at least show him the threads he'd be interested in looking at. I enjoy it

Congrats. I think it's awesome how the whole Kilt experience is bringing you closer together.

The power, indeed!
I'm a bit embarassed to admit this (I know I shouldn't be, but you know what I mean), but for a long time I was suffering from some severe anxieties. It was to the point where I didn't really want to see even the closest/oldest of friends because I just panicked constantly. Even my online contact dwindled to nothing. I've always been more of an introvert and my hubby is definitely not, but that was too extreme. I'm tired of missing out. I told him if he got a kilt, I'd definitely be interested in going out for a drink or dressing up for a nice occasion. It would be something interesting and fun to help me focus on something other than anxieties and fears. When I found this board and told him about the kilt night section, I told him how awesome that would be to meet some of the members and get out/have fun and possibly make some new friends. Instead of me freaking out about meeting people, there'd automatically be something both parties could talk about and help get me talking.
When we went to the North Texas Irish Festival, I knew of two people I could spot or find. Both times, I was a little nervous about approaching them and introducing myself but I did it. I'm sure I stammered a lot and was a bit nervous, but it amazed me how much easier it was all because I wanted to meet others who were interested in kilts and other things like that.
Now, I wonder if I'm driving my husband nuts when I tell him "Ooh! There's something going on __ weekend... can we go? Will you wear your kilt?"
(of course, I'm sure it wasn't necessarily the fact that it was a kilt that helped, but something I was very interested in and saw potential to enjoy more than just "oh look, my husband is wearing it around the house today", you know?)
