    Stillwater Kilts surprise

My apologies if this is old news but I don't recall seeing this mentioned in the past.

I just received my new Weathered Mackenzie kilt from Stillwater kilts and was disappointed to see a Made in Pakistan tag on it. Note that I am not complaining about the quality - it looks the same as the other SW kilts I have. I'm just disappointed is all.

If I remember right, Jerry has always been up front on his site that his kilts are made there, but you're getting a high quality garment from him, rather than some of the junk that's out there. I wouldn't worry much about it.

I guess I've missed it. I agree that the quality is very high. I was just surprised as this was the first of four kilts that had the label in it.

Well I just checked his site's and there was nothing about where the Thriftys and standards are made. It does say the the Wools are made in Scotland but not the others. I may have missed it but tried not to.

Just my own silly expectations. I like to know where things are made when I buy 'em. I try to avoid buying things made in China just on general principles but that is definitely not easy any more. I have no quibbles with the qualities of Jerry's kilts - I just wish I had known up front where they were made.

Actually, I think it has been an open "secret" that SWK products came from Pakistan. I don't think that Jerry has ever actually indicated it on his website; and I don't think that any of the several kilts I have from him indicate that, but I'd have to doublecheck.

As others say, the quality of his product and service are first rate. Given certain political realities about that country and its history of a lack of workers rights, I can understand BruceK's questioning it as a country of origin.

Would it have prevented you from buying one if you knew it was made in Pakistan?

To be honest Yes, it would. And it may in the future.

Please understand - I'm not trying to make a federal case out of this. And I don't pretend to be consistent in everything I do. But I do try to limit what I buy in terms of products made in certain countries. And to be honest if there are two comparable products, one made in, say, Pakistan and the other made, say, here in the U.S., I will give the one made in the U.S. a greater consideration even if it's at a higher price.

I'm not saying everyone should do this - all I'm saying is that is what I do. And I like to know where something's made before I buy it.
