Apparently I'm making garter flashes! haha
Anybody know where I could find a pattern or instructions?

    Here goes:
With a small size yarn, (such as fingering or sock weight), and a US size 2 or 3 double-pointed needle, cast on 1 1/4" worth of stitches. With a second DPN, knit those stitches, but don't slip them off the first needle. You now have two needles, with the original number of stitches on each. With a third DPN, begin knitting in the round over these two needles. You're making a long tube, or "snake". (It might be easier to divide these stitches onto 3 needles, and knit them with a fourth one.)
When you've reached the desired length, work a two-needle bind-off -or- use Kitchener (grafting) stitch to close up the end. If you want fringe, use a crochet hook to pull a loop of yarn through an end stitch, pass the ends of this piece of yarn through the loop, and pull to tighten. Repeat for as many fringes as you want.

In other words, you're making a very long, very skinny tubular scarf.
    I hope this helps.

And welcome aboard, by the way, from western North Carolina, the greatest place on Earth!

I would suggest you have him make his own!!

If I can do it - anyone can!!!

Pick up one of these at a craft or fabric store (Joanns or Michaels - check circulars as they always have 40-50% off one item)

    See this prior post...

I still have to add fringe but I'm quite amazed, this thing does an awesome job in just 15 minutes in the hands of someone who has never knitted in his life

I also saw some books on making knitted hose (including cabling). I bought wool yarn in green, navy, red, and black. Guess what I'm going to be doing today.
