Yeah, the type of leather in that belt is very stiff and rigid to begin with and then the continuous velcro restricts the folding as well. You can try simply rubbing a liberal amount of mink oil into the belt to soften it up and make it more pliable. Flexing and crushing it over and over will break down the fibers a bit also. Getting the keepers that came with it pushed up tight to the buckle should help to pinch and hold the fold also.
