Come to think of it, I got a resin cow skull for a kilt pin that very well may fit the bill. I'll get a picture of it for you!

That's how I Colorado up my Colorado state tartan kilt.

Kiltboy or Nighthawk - can you recommend a retailer (on-line or otherwise) who might have a more varied selection of Texas/Western wear (belts, buckles, vests, etc.) that would be more "appropriate" with a kilt? The Cavendars and Sheplers stores do not seem to have the right stuff. For instance, the widest belt I could find at these retailers was 1 and 1/2" whereas a true kilt belt is 2 and 1/2 to 3" wide.
Thanks for the help.

I'd agree that it just doesn't make sense. A kilt just isn't a real riding garment, so does not make much sense to wear with riding boots. Something more like these would make more sense, I think.

You're not going to find western style belts that are that wide. They simply won't fit into the belt loops of pants, so nobody makes them that wide. You're talking custom territory here, where you'd need to commission a leatherworker to build you a kilt belt with western style tooling on it.
It just so happens that this is what my wife does for a living. She builds and tools saddles, belts, canteen covers, chaps, etc. She could make you a custom kilt belt in any tooled pattern you desire, at the appropriate width, and a custom length per your measurements.
This is the kilt belt she recently made for me.

She made that one in a Celtic design, of course, but her specialty is western-style tooling (especially Sheridan-style tooling). Like this:

I'm not necessarily trying to peddle anything here; it's just that you're going to have a hard time finding what you're looking for without going to a custom maker. PM me if you're really interested in going that route. There are some other leatherworkers on this board (look at the advertisers) that could perhaps do it as well. Definitely talk to them too.

I kind of doubt you are gonna find a 'western' style belt thats wider than what will go through the belt loops on jeans, same with buckles, even the big*ss rodeo award ones still only fit a 'regular' belt. There are some leatherworkers here on the forum that could likely make a kilt belt for you with western tooling etc. that could still fit a regular western buckle.
As far as vests and other clothing, I'd look over some of the cowboy action shooting vendors like Frontier Classics or Wild West Mercantile, they have lots of vest styles, many of them higher cut, so they fit good with kilts.

Why not order a Texas Bluebonnet Tartan kilt? That's probably the simplest way to honour Scotland and the Republic!

How did we all overlook the simple answer?
If you do go for lace up boots I highly recommend Justin Double Comforts. They live up to the name and Justin makes a good boot.

Wow - Beautiful work!! Does your wife have a website? If not, can I contact her through the e-mail? I’m in the Dallas area.

Great idea...I was at the Justin outlet store in Ft. Worth over the weekend and didn't think to look at lace up boots. I'll go back there this coming weekend. Thanks!

I agree. Western style belts are too narrow.
But also check out local tack shops. Many do custom leather/strap work. In fact, one of my favorite sporran straps came from a tack and farm supply shop Chattanooga. Bought, off the rack, for less than $20.
