To clarify, if I may, the "black kilt jacket" Sandy. I take it you mean the black, silver buttoned, barathea, argyll?
Would I wear this highland attire should I be invited? It depends a bit on what context I was invited, I could , but consider the guidance on the invitation. So on balance and assuming I had no uniform to wear, I would wear a morning suit.
