Yes I am aware that the dress was different then than now. I was merely using that historic example to express my idea. The leather cantles on their sporrans are the dead giveaway that they are intended for day dress. Considering that the sporran I want to wear has a metal cantle, I'm thinking of jazzing up the jacket to silver buttoned Argyll. I'm also leaning heavily to Claret hose.

White shirt it is. Although most guests will be in business dress, I don't want too much discrepancy between my brothers and myself so adopting a slightly more formal dress to fit with them, but not too far apart from the other guests.

'Xactly. Waistcoat or waist plate is my only consideration then now and that will depend more on the weather that day I think. I can get four toes in my hand incidentally, but that's a discussion for another day perhaps.
