I think I will borrow that and insert American! Although we are two countries separated by a common language, we both suffer from insularity.

On The Issue Of Semantics
just a thought, but is it not a little bit of a narrow view to suggest that anything not wool is junk or use cheap to sound as if it extends beyond cost?
Take for example Stillwater, who is also an advertiser here, Jerry has provided me excellent service, been responsive to my inquiries and supplied me with a product that has met my limited budget and to my mind is not junk.
Certainly I would not compare the quality to a 16 oz. handsewn wool kilt but I do not think it is poor quality. There are other merchants who sell in the same price range whose standards are rather poor.
I have a couple kilts now that are not wool and handsewn etc. and they will allow me to enjoy wearing a kilt while I save money to buy a high quality wool kilt. This is a tough economy, and there are bills to pay and expenses to meet so I do not regret having a couple of Stillwaters.

I agree.
Marton Mills sell excellent wool blends and PV. But it isn't that cheap either.
As the old saying goes :"You get what you pay for"... in general.
There are exceptions , of course. Thank God !
I bought my first fabric on E-Bay. 14oz rare and old tartan wool. It was a "give away" ! But I was patiently waiting for month before.
The other factor that has to be mastered is the impulse to buy quickly !
Great deals show up if one is just willing to be patient.
best,
Robert

With respect, that's not what I said. I don't believe that cheaper, non wool kilts are junk. On the contrary, It's my opinion that these kilts provide an invaluable introduction for the would be kiltie. I have the utmost respect for Jerry at Stillwater and his like as they bring the possibility of affordable kilting to hundreds of people. Not everyone needs or wants a wool kilt and the decision to purchase one is personal to the individual.
I have been bitten by the wool kilt bug so it is a road I have chosen to follow but that's just for me. I do not decry anyone who owns and is happy with a non wool kilt, I own five myself and as previously stated, I still wear them. I apologise if my post came across as damning non wool kilts. That was not my intent.

John, I agree. I wouldnt consider buying a kilt in any other material unless it was upto the same standard. I may get a hand-made PV kilt in the future, but only if I feel it will sit as well as wool.
I own the same amount of kilts as you at the moment, though, I have one being made just now.
By the way - are you wearing a PC at Ferintosh in March? (just checking there there will be a few PCs before I shove on my doublet!)
It is in truth not for glory, nor riches, nor honours that we are fighting, but for freedom -- for that alone, which no honest man gives up but with life itself.
