Here are three I've had made:

This was my first. It was made by Louis Garcia of Fredericksburg, Texas (http://www.lgknives.com/), who generally makes hunting knives. It may not be a thing of beauty, but it's quite functional, very high-quality steel and holds an edge well.

This one was made by Adriaan Gerber of Maine, by way of South Africa (http://www.adriaangerberknives.com/). It's made of 1056 steel. Adriaan does all his work by hand, using no electrical tools. Very simple and elegant.

This was made by Michael Wise, of Jack, Alabama (http://www.angelfire.com/my/wisecustomknives/). It's made from 1095 and is very sleek. It has become my favorite recently.

I had a hand in simplifying Drac's original sgian design (http://www.xmarksthescot.com/forum/f...an-dubh-61922/) which evolved into Artificer's sgian. I have a maker lined up to create my version but have decided to postpone the commission as a custom weave box pleat from Matt Newsome has put it on the backburner at present... One of these days! But it'll look something like this:

There is some beautiful custom work on this thread. Lovely to see.

I have a bit of an issue with knives which I'll not re-hash here but that said, I've come to terms with the sgian although I don't wear one with my every day knocking about look.

I have two, both bought in. One is a copy of a 19th century military sgian. The handle is stained wood, carved in a basketweave design and studded with steel pins. The scabbard is leather with pewter metal work. The blade is steel and has a fairly dull edge.

It came in a nice "Rosewood" box and was bought by my wife as a valetines present.

The other one I have is a dummy sgian made from the oak of a salvaged whisky barrel. It's flattened off at the back so it fits snuggly againts the calf and is purely for decoration. nice thing though. I like it anyway.

Some other stuff familiar to most of us with it to give an impression of the size.

I took the photo's off another forum that I posted on that allowed me to post attachments of my pc! I'm able to see them on the thread, I don't have a photo-bucket account I'll see if I can post them some other way or can someone else be kind enough to help?

I looked at the code you used in your earlier post and the images are giving a 404 permission error. Personally, I use flickr but I hear photobucket is good too. Both are free and user friendly

A Black Watch sgian belonging to a long departed uncle. Apart from the blade(razor sharp) the metal work is silver gilt and with a real Cairngorm stone, made by Hamilton and Inches(I cannot date it as the date hallmark cannot be read). It is the only one I carry.

I've never seen the sort of 'sgian don't' before. Given the increased intolerance towards knives that is being shown in many places, I imagine we'll be seeing more and more of this sort of thing. I've even seen a few really nice quality sgian brews floating around: carved black wooden handles, silver fittings, etc.

That is a beauty Jock and also a nice piece of history. I can see why it is the only one you need!
