I've made several, but this is far and away my favorite one. Handle is "wormy" American Chestnut capped with a bit of Eastern Hemlock. Bolster is poured pewter.

I use only one sgian, made by Inverness silversmith Medlock & Craik, and given to my father in the 1930's. I like it because it is very thin and light, suitable for any occasion. I keep it sharpened.
The hallmarks on sgians must wear off awfully easily, as all that is left is a wee smudge! Considering it is over 70 years old this is hardly surprising.

Here is my "one and only" - a Plain Torridon with blackwood handle from the Scottish Tartans Museum:

I bought this one both because I wanted something that bridged the gap between daywear and more formalwear, and because I preferred something with a real wooden handle (I've never been a fan of molded resin handles).
I think it does the job quite nicely.

Simply superb DWFII, not only fine footwear but a sgian dubh or 2 in to the mix. The contrast of the materials, both colour and texture, and the attention to detail is really something
