Re: The dichotomy: the "Edgy" old guy just looks silly
Yes, dichotomy. Just last weekend again, a late teen asked me where to get a kilt like mine. It was quite the surprise when I started wearing kilts, to suddenly be "Edgy" for the first time in my life. The bigger issue is just what is "age appropriate?" Just consider maybe we are indeed acting age appropriate and the masses have unquestioningly accepted a false stereotype. (reminder to self: be kind to them anyway)

Well I am approaching middle age (I'll be 83 this month) and I wear a kilt almost every day. Both tartan (thought I'm not a Scot) and Utilikilts. They are just comfortable clothing and I appreciate comfort.

Alan, you are weird. Revel in it.
Your style is not one I would embrace, but I really don't care. At 58, I have dropped a lot of things I once thoughts important.

As some one once said, "Growing OLD is mandatory, but growing UP is optional!"
So I refuse to grow up and act my age!

Re: The dichotomy: the "Edgy" old guy just looks silly
I had my senior picture taken in a blue windsor style shirt, a tweed jacket and , unseen, of course, Jeans. I still have the shirt. I wanted to wear it to my 40th reunion, but it seems to have shrunk. I still wear nothing but windsor style shirts. It drives my wife nuts, but I keep telling her I like button down collars. She keeps buying everthing but. I have a lot of shirts I have never worn because they aren't my style. Most of my pants are still jeans. It just pains me to no end to shop for pants.
BTW...I wore a kilt to my class reunion. A few of my classmates kinda expected it. Most were surprised. My ex wife, (in the class behind me), made a couple of crude comments about it. But at least she is still thinking of me.

Crude comments merely serve to indicate the classiness or lack thereof of the commenter.

This makes me wonder... I'm getting a black hoodie with my martial arts school logo embroidered on the back for Christmas. If I wear that with my black Amerikilt, will people think it's weird... or just scary? Next question is- at 36 years old, do I give a damn? Answer is- NO!! I do not.
