Since I mostly wear UK's, I can say when people comment, they recognize that I'm wearing a kilt, and that the negative comments have been few and far between. I was out in a busy shopping district in the suburbs this weekend, and one guy on the street actually said "sweet Utilikilt," another just said "nice kilt." It is a pretty sophisticated community though, so your mileage may vary.
