Further disadvantages to Dr. Martens brand footwear: 1) The soles are soft and wear out quickly. 2) They cannot be resoled.
I bought a pair of unused ex-army parade boots made by Sanders about 4 or 5 years ago. I have worn them for occasions ranging from "fraternal" parades, through short nature walks, to church on Sunday. And its only now that I need to send them away to be resoled. Mind you, I only paid about US $50 for them, although I gather they sell for £90-£100 retail.
