Glad you mentioned the old Cameronians (Scottish Rifles) they were pretty unique for Scottish Infantry, being the only Rifle regiment. Many moons ago (early 80's) I was an Air Cadet (Air Training Corps) and my squadron was based at Cameronian House in Hamilton. The regular battalion of Cameronians had been disbanded in 1968 (they were the County Regiment for Lanarkshire, and that role was superceded by 1st Bttn. King's Own Scottish Borderers, another unit with which I share family associations). However until the early 90's there were still Cameronian badged companies of the 52nd Lowland Volunteers. Their Glengarry was rifle green with black silk, grosgrain band, ribbons, cockade, and toorie. They also unlike the Royal Scots, KOSB, and RHF did not wear spats when in No.2 service dress. Officers wore both straps vertically on their Sam Browne's and their buttons, pips and crowns of rank were black metal.

The Cameronians still live on in an affiliated regiment, the Witswatersrand Rifles of the South African Army:

This is especially clever: "It is often remarked that the Cape Town Highlanders are the only coastal Highlanders and Wits Rifles are the only highland Lowlanders."
