I purchased the belt over the winter as i was shrinking out of some belts mainly for jeans or shorts, but was thinking it might look pretty nice in the casual Kilt dept, what's the consensus?

Because of the extra leather on one side the belt does not lie right and the buckle angles. Solutions?
This sounds like a traditional kilt belt (cavscout's) second example. As he mentioned, keepers might help. Also, if the belt is stiff and new, it might need to be worked in a bit so that it folds over more easily.

I've had similar trouble with the traditional, wide kilt belt. The extra leather makes it thicker on one side for an awkward look and feel. I tried adjusting it to the proper size, removed the buckle and then put something heavy (a treadmill) on the loop where the buckle goes to try to flatten it out so the buckle doesn't angle so much. I met with middling success.
Sorry for the threadjack. Try searching for "kilt belts" for more info!

Casual belts are more like this
and "Traditional" would be more along these lines
Is the extra leather flapping around? If so a keeper to hold it in place should do the trick. Give us more detail and I'm sure we can help.
The belt I have has velcro on the inside for adjustability but creates a double belt thickness on one side. Here is the link to the belt I have:

That's a nice looking belt, how wide is it?
I've seen 1.5" (regular pants size) belts look OK on a casual kilt that sits at the pants waist but I think a wider belt looks better...

I had to actually go measure it LOL, I knew it was bigger than standard as it doesnt fit in some of the belt loops I have. Turns out its 1 3/4".

That's the width of the garrison belt sold by Sportkilt. Should do the trick!

Too bad they're only available in black. I've got a new kilt showing up at the door today and need a brown casual belt of that style to go with it.

You can try simply rubbing a liberal amount of mink oil into the belt to soften it up and make it more pliable. Flexing and crushing it over and over will break down the fibers a bit also. Getting the keepers that came with it pushed up tight to the buckle should help to pinch and hold the fold also.

You might want to try the Lucky Jeans site then or if you have a store around you, the three belts i have picked up on clearance from there are all the same width as the one I posted. Might be that their belt loops on their jeans are that size as a standard, so all their belts are a bit wider.
